World Vision is an international Christian Humanitarian relief and development Organization serving children, their families and communities to alleviate poverty in 96 countries, primarily through programmes of transformational development, emergency relief and promotion of justice. Faridpur ADP, World Viason Bangladesh has been carrying out its program in the area since 1996 covering seven unions under Faridpur Sadar Upazila. Prior to this in 1994, World Vision Bangladesh initiated a Community Development Program named: Faridpur CD Project covering only one union of Decreer Char. Later, applying the ADP approach, this project has been promoted through PRA (Project Rapid Appraisal) and become operational as an ADP, covering seven unions of Faridpur Sadar Upazila.
Faridpur ADP is located in the Faridpur Sadar Upazila under Faridpur district. It is 145 km Southwest from Dhaka City. The Upazila is bounded on the North by Goalanda Upazila of Rajbari district and Shibalaya and Harirampur Upazila of Manikgonj district. On the East, by Char Bhadrason Upazila, on the South by Nagarkanda and Boalmari Upazila and on the West by Madhukhali and Rajbari Sadar Upazila of Rajbari district. It covers part of Faridpur Municipality area and 7 unions (the smallest administrative of Government) out of 11 unions of Faridpur Sadar Upazila. The covering unions are: Ambikapur, Aliabad, Charmadobdia, Decreer Char, Gerda, Ishan Gopalpur, Koijuri. There is also one municipality in Faridpur Sadar Upazila.
Faridpur ADP area covers 241.25 km2 with 211348 populations from it seven unions out of eleven and a part of the municipality. Those target area unions are: Ambikapur, Aliabad, Charmadobdia, Decreer Char, Gerda, Ishan Gopalpur, Koijuri.
Faridpur ADP consists of three projects-Livelihood Security Project, Education Project & Sponsorship Management Projects. These three projects are working closely to achieve the program goal “Building together an empowered community that confirms quality life”. The program activities made a valuable contribution to the child wellbeing aspiration, empowerment of poor community especially the CBO members, agriculture development, Education, Health etc.
