The literacy meaning of AKK is AMRA KAJ KORY (We do work) is a Non-govt. non-profitable and non-political voluntary development organization. It was established in January 1985with the initiation of a group of motivated , educated social workers with an aim to enhance the socio-economic status of the rural poor , disadvantaged and disaster affected vulnerable people emphasizing the women , children ages and disable people through concretization, capacity building, institution build & capital formation and imparting felt-need based problem solving programs. It believes in non-directive, bottom up, integrated and participatory development frame work as a catalyst with the concern people and aspires a judge full and equitable share able society, where every individual could be able to live in peace, harmony and justice.
Since inception in 1985AKK has been working hard to derive away poverty, illiteracy, malnutrition, health and it responds within 72 hours in emergency if any disaster occurs. It believes community people who are affected to disaster have rights to get service according to sphere standard. It has been pursuing its development as community efforts through getting involve with government and non government schemes and donors and fully participate in the disaster preparedness, mitigation activities and capacity and skill development.
The major action themes of AKK for people centered development are:
a) Disaster preparedness / DRR through community level yard awareness sessions, folk song and drama.
b) Self organizing structures and mobilizing resource for enhancing economic condition.
c) Community based people institution building.
d) Access and undertaking different small scale mitigation activities for community resilience to disaster and climate change impacts.
e) Distribute relief goods/food package among the disaster affected people
f) Undertake DRR approach and planning at school level
It aims to assist the poorest of the community to assure and sufficient means of livelihood and social equity. AKK has a bitter experience of exploitation, torturing and deprivation of the asset less people by the influential, land lords’ grabbers, feudal and son Violation of human rights and democracy perpetuates the process of dehumanize.
AKK was established with a view to welfare and socio-economic development of the people displaced by regular crops failures, due to excess of rain fall, drought, flood, cyclones, and natural disaster, asset less, destitute and starving people of the country with a particular emphasis on women and children sections. Primary AKK started to organize the women the women folk for their self-reliance. Because the women are exploited booth socially and economically (she is poor, she women) familial, even biologically and women by themselves.
AKK aspire for a society where every individual will be able to live in an atmosphere of peace and harmony i.e. free from exploitation, oppression and starvation where every individual will get equal and transparent shares of the resources belonging to this society.
The basic approach of AKK has to promote self-help and self-reliance. AKK was established in 1985 by the active initiative of a group of dedicated social workers to work for the welfare of the poor both at a micro and macro level.
